As a traditional fuel vehicle, a cooling module is configured in the front compartment of the engine, which is responsible for the heat dissipation of the engine. Today we will talk about the radiator, one of the core functions of the cooling module.

The radiator is commonly known as the "water tank". As early as 1901, an engine radiator appeared abroad, mainly to reduce the temperature of the engine. Its appearance controls the proper temperature of the cylinder, cylinder head, intake and exhaust valves, cools the various components of the internal combustion engine, and effectively increases the power of the engine.

First, the role of the radiator

The function of the car radiator is to dissipate the excess heat carried by the coolant in the engine water jacket into the air by means of an external forced air flow. Ensure that the engine can always work at a suitable temperature, so as to obtain higher engine economic performance, power performance and working reliability. If the heat dissipation capacity of the radiator is insufficient, the engine will be overheated, the lubricating oil will become thinner, resulting in the leakage of the lubricating oil, the cylinder block and the piston will directly contact the cylinder, and even the engine will burn out. If the heat exchange margin of the radiator is too large, the engine will work at a lower temperature, unable to exert maximum power and increase fuel consumption.

Second, the radiator classification

1. According to the material, the radiator can be divided into copper and aluminum. Due to thermal conductivity and economy, aluminum radiators are generally selected as materials for passenger cars at present;

According to the structure, it is divided into tube fin type (expanded tube type) and tube belt type (welded type). The belt heat pipe and the heat dissipation fin are welded together, and the thermal resistance is relatively small. Therefore: Generally speaking, the heat exchange capacity of the tube-and-belt radiator is better than that of the tube-and-belt radiator for the same size of heat dissipation core; but due to the high energy consumption of the welded core, the economic performance of the tube-and-belt radiator is better than that of the welded type radiator. ; Optional assembly type (expanded pipe type) for small-displacement models, pipe-belt type for large-displacement and compact engine compartment space,

3. According to the flow direction of the coolant, it is divided into cross flow and longitudinal flow; this mainly depends on the arrangement of the radiator in the engine;

3. Factors affecting the heat transfer capacity of the radiator

1. Air intake grille, electronic fan power supply, cooling module layout, etc.

2. The layout of the inlet and outlet pipes. Generally, for single-flow radiators, the radiator nozzles are placed diagonally across the cooling core. For the same core, the heat exchange capacity of the U-flow radiator is better than that of the single-flow radiator, but the hot-side resistance is greater than that of the single process

3. The direct factor that affects the heat exchange capacity of the radiator is the size of the heat dissipation core. The larger the heat exchange core, the stronger the capacity (matching the tube and strip);

4. The heat transfer capacity of the radiator is directly related to the specifications of the heat pipe. Generally speaking, the flatter the heat pipe, the stronger the heat transfer ability. For tube-and-belt radiators, the flatter the tube, the stronger the heat dissipation capacity, but the greater the resistance of the hot side. The larger (the flow area decreases);

5. The radiator fin is another factor that directly affects the heat transfer capacity of the radiator, which is mainly related to the density of the fin, the structural form, the angle of the shutter, etc.;
